A useful starting point
Compare gutter estimates on equal terms
Describe the job, not just the price
When comparing gutter estimates, check whether each proposal covers the same sections, downspouts, removal, and cleanup. A smaller repair and a full replacement solve different needs. Ask for the scope in writing so you can compare the actual work being offered.
Separate needed work from options
If you are interested in guards as well as gutters, ask which work is necessary to get the system draining and which work is an optional improvement. Discuss the condition of the attachment boards before choosing a replacement, since the support behind the gutter matters too.
Prepare a short project note
Write down which side of the home is affected, what you noticed, and any work already attempted. Photos taken safely from the ground can help explain your concern. Chris can then assess the system during an estimate and explain what the proposed work includes.
Why can two gutter estimates be very different?
They may cover different lengths, materials, access conditions or repairs. Ask each provider to identify the included work in writing. A lower total alone does not tell you whether both estimates address the same problem.
